Love Island fans were shocked to learn the age gap between contestants Gemma Owen and her ex-boyfriend Jacques O’Neill when they broke up.
On Sunday night, the international dressage rider, 19, had a surprise when her former flame, rugby player Jacques, 23, entered the villa as the latest bombshell.
Gemma, the daughter of football icon Michael, filled the girls in on their history as he enjoyed breakfast with Paige Thorne and Afia Tonkmor, revealing that they broke up a year and a half ago after eight months of dating.

This revelation did not go amiss amongst avid viewers, who quickly rushed to Twitter to comment.
One taken-aback fan penned: ‘Jacques is 23 and is Gemma’s ex which means he was 21 dating a 16 year old? Insanity.’
Another dwelled on the lack of reaction from the islanders: ‘So why is no one in the villa weirded out by Gemma and Jacques’ age gap? Is no one doing the math?’

While there was debate over whether Gemma was 16 or 17 when the relationship ended, one insisted: ‘They were dating for 8 months so started dating when she was 16… so gross’.
A fourth impassioned tweet read: ‘I don’t care if 16 and 21 is illegal or not but if you’re in 3rd year uni and are going out with someone who could be year 11 there’s something extremely wrong with you.’
Meanwhile, a fifth was optimistic that the ITV2 phenomenon would shed light on ‘how wrong’ adult-teenage relationships are.
‘I feel like this season of #LoveIsland is finally going to open up the discussion about how wrong it is for adults to be on relationships with teenagers (something that should go without saying) as reports say Gemma was 16 and Jacques was 20 when they were together’.
